Reverend Jesse Jackson inspires pupils at London Enterprise
Global Statesman and Iconic civil rights leader, The Reverend Jesse Jackson visited London Enterprise Academy on Friday 17th December.
The two-time Democratic presidential candidate spent the afternoon with students and teachers celebrating his 80th Birthday.
He spoke to students and staff and shared stories of his struggles and his campaign for freedom and justice.
Reverend Jackson rose to prominence whilst working with Dr Martin Luther King, who became his mentor. During the 1960s Civil Rights Movement, Rev Jackson joined the Congress of Racial Equality and participated in marches and sit-ins, and in 1965, he took part in the historic Selma to Montgomery march with Dr King.
Reverend Jackson told pupils to aim high and big, “I want to see pupils of London Enterprise Academy dream of becoming the Prime Minister of the UK, of Bangladesh or Somalia. Everything is possible if you want it.”
He went on to share one of his famous sayings, “If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it, I know I can achieve it.”
This was a historic event for London Enterprise Academy and will be cherished by our students and staff for a long time.
