Attendance and Punctuality
“To keep pupils’ attendance in line with the national average (96%)”
“To reduce persistent absence.”
Attendance Vision
Our vision is to create a truly outstanding free school delivering the very best educational opportunities, nurture academic excellence and enhanced ambition in all its pupils, inspire the next generation of professionals and entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds.
We aim to improve school attendance, reduce truancy and to ensure that students fully benefit from education that is provided at London Enterprise Academy.
At London Enterprise Academy, we do everything possible to facilitate regular attendance at school. There are four main reasons for this:
1. All young people aged between 5 and 16 have the right to full time education. Schools and local education authorities have a duty to ensure that they take up this right;
2. A key factor in raising levels of achievement in our school is establishing a regular pattern of attendance and punctuality. Students are unlikely to achieve if they are absent from school;
3. Positive attitude towards attendance enables students to maximise their opportunities both at school and in later life;
4. London Enterprise Academy places a high priority on promoting equal access to the curriculum for all pupils. Irregular attendance may lead to disadvantage and inequality, place pupils at risk, isolate them from their peers and may result in unsettled or even criminal behaviour.
Penalty for Poor Attendance
Parents/carers commit an offence if a child fails to attend school regularly and on time and the absences/ late arrivals are classed as unauthorised or avoidable (those for which the school cannot or has not given permission). The failure of a child to attend regularly can result in a fine up to £2500.
How Having 90% or Less Affects Your Child's Attendance
Weekly your child will miss half a day of school
Yearly your child will miss 4 weeks of school
At the end of 5 years your child will have missed half a year of school!
When Your Child Can Miss School
You can only allow your child to miss school if either:
• they’re too ill to go in
• you’ve got advance permission from the school (Medical Appointment)
Holidays in Term Time
We DO NOT authorise holidays during term time.
However, under special circumstance, permission from the Principal is needed if you want to take your child out of school during term time.
You can only do this if:
• you make an application to the Principal in advance
• there are exceptional circumstances
It is up to the Principal how many days your child can be away from school if leave is granted.
You can be fined for taking your child on holiday during term time without the school’s permission.
