Year 11

You must legally be in education until the age of 18. Your child must apply to either a Sixth Form/College, Apprenticeship or T-Level for September 2022.

What does my child need to do?

-Your child needs to apply for a place in a sixth form or college to study either A-Levels or BTEC beginning September 2022- 2024. 

OR

Apply for an apprenticeship for September 2022

OR 

Apply for a T-Level for September 2022 (New qualification from DFE from September 2020)

 

1. Research the different options available to them (A-Levels/ BTEC/ Apprenticeship- Presentation found below)

2. Look at the entry requirements (GCSE grades) online to get into their preferred option

3. Apply for Open Evenings online using sixth form/ college websites (Linked down below)

4. Attend a 1-1 Careers Guidance Interview in school

5. Complete a personal statement (Presentation & examples found below) 

6. Make at least 3 applications to a College/ Sixth Form/ Apprenticeship online

7. Enroll into a Sixth Form or College in August 2022/ or confirm attendance for apprenticeship/ T Level

Options After Year 11

 Use the National Careers Service- to research 100's of careers. Please check if your chosen career has specific A-Levels which you must study.

National Careers Service

 

A-Levels:

A-Levels - you must pick between 3-4 subjects to study, the study duration is two years (Exam based) at a college or sixth form .

Entry Requirements: 5 GCSES grade 6-9 Including Maths and English.
(Please check individual subject requirements on college / sixth form websites)

Example Subjects: Biology, Chemistry, English, Math's, Psychology, Economics, Politics

How do i apply: You will need to apply directly on the college or sixth form website through an online application form. 

 

BTEC 

Level 3 BTEC- You must pick 1 BTEC course to study, the study duration is for two years (Coursework based)at a college or sixth form

Entry Requirements: 5 GCSES grade 4-9 including Maths and English (Level 3)
(Please check individual subject requirements on college/ provider websites)

Level 2 BTEC- only for students who did not achieve a Grade 4 in English and Maths GCSE 

Example Subjects- Business, IT, Health and Social Care, Applied Science, Engineering, Plumbing 

How do i apply: You will need to apply directly on the college or sixth form website through an online application form.

 

Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship: This is when you are working and earning money (80%), whilst gaining a qualification (20%) lasting between 1-6 years. This is equivalent to 2 A-Levels

Entry Requirements: Advanced Apprenticeship- 5 GCSES including English and Maths (Please check your chosen apprenticeship as they differ)

Amazing Apprenticeships- Live snapshot of apprenticeships and vacancies available.

This website gives live vacancies on apprenticeship vacancies across many different companies. It gives you an employer fact file with information on the company.

If you click on Time to Apply, a list of all the companies will come up along with a summary of apprenticeships available, the level of apprenticeships they offer, the location, deadline and application window and live vacancies available in the company. 

 

T-Levels

T-Levels- This is a new qualification from the Department for Education who have been working with employers to develop this. The first T-Levels took place in September 2020 and will become one of the three main options after year 11 alongside A-Levels and Apprenticeships. 

T-Levels are classroom learning at a college (80%) with work based learning at a workplace (20%) lasting 2 years. They are equivalent to 3 A-Levels 

Entry Requirements: 5 GCSES including English and Maths (Please check your chosen T-Level as they differ)

 How Does My Child Apply To Colleges and Sixth Forms:

You must complete an online application form on the college or sixth form webiste- This is usually on the sixth form section of the page. Please find links below you can access to apply for place
